Finding & Borrowing Materials
How do I search for print books, e-books, audiobooks, articles, and journals?
- Primo offers broad search capabilities for most resources.
- The A-Z Databases list can help you target specific subject areas.
- While most databases are searchable through Primo, some require direct access.
Where do I find print materials?
- Most print materials are located on the 4th floor (Library Services) of the Devereaux Building.
- Leisure reading materials are available on the Main Floor and the Third Level.
- A self-checkout station is located near the Main Floor entrance.
How long can I check out books?
- Loan periods vary.
- Most books may be borrowed for 28 days.
- Newer items, media, and special materials may have shorter checkout periods.
- Most materials can be renewed.
- Note: Loan periods for interlibrary loan (ILL) materials are set by the lending library and may vary.
Check due dates via Primo.
How do I renew library materials?
- Online:
- Log in to Primo
- Click your name
- Select “My Loans”
- Follow the prompts
- Other options: Renew in person, by phone at (605) 394-2418, or by email at library@sdsmt.edu
Note: ILL renewals must be requested by Library Services from the lending library. Email us at least 3 days before the due date.
How do I return items?
- A book return is located near the entrance of the Devereaux Building.
- Items can also be returned to the Service Desk on the 4th floor.
How do I request a book from another library (interlibrary loan)?
- Interlibrary loan is available to current faculty, staff, and students.
- Use Tipasa or email interlibraryloan@sdsmt.edu to make requests.
- Community members should request SD Mines materials through their local libraries.
Can I suggest a book for the library to purchase?
Absolutely! Email your suggestions to library@sdsmt.edu.
