How do I request a book from another library (interlibrary loan)?

Answer

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is available to current faculty, staff, and students. Patrons should also be aware that any materials borrowed through ILL are assigned a due date by the lending institution. Items are generally eligible for one renewal, but this is not guaranteed. Some libraries stipulate that their items cannot be renewed - these items will be labeled with "No Renewals" on the book band. Patrons must abide by the final due date provided by the lending institution.

  • Use Tipasa to make requests.
  • Individuals not currently enrolled or employed at SD Mines must request SD Mines materials via interlibrary loan through their local library.
  • Interlibrary loan (ILL) services typically do not include textbooks. While libraries may lend books and articles, textbooks are often excluded due to high demand, short loan periods, and policies that prevent libraries from lending them.
